On 11 July, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) informed that four new factories in Bangladesh have recently been certified as LEED Platinum by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
Four new factories achieve LEED Green certification
The newly certified factories are:
Ananta Jeanswear Limited (90 points)
Big Boss Corporation Limited (88 points)
Aptech Caswier Limited (86 points)
Basic Shirts Limited (90 points)
all factories are situated in Gazipur.
USGBC honors factories based on several criteria such as transformation performance, energy, water, and waste management. The best performers are rated with platinum, followed by gold and silver.
This significant achievement represents the country’s sustainable industrial growth. Including 122 Gold and 88 Platinum-rated factories, there are now 224 LEED Green factories altogether.
Notably, Bangladesh now has 59 out of the top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified factories in the world.
According to BGMEA, this significant achievement demonstrates how Bangladesh is enhancing its capacity for green manufacturing, which benefits the country’s textile and apparel sector’s competitiveness internationally as well as the environment.
